Reflection 118 (journey)

Journey

I think it is quite a cliche to call life a journey
but I think the saying is so successful because there is so much value in it.

Our big destinations are often not as great as we imagined all along the way and soon after reaching we need to start the next journey. If I can give the example of medical students, once they finish their studies, as medical student, then only begins housemanship with so much of night work. Then the specialisation, the subspecialisation, then establishing of themselves,... Life seems like a never ending journey and destinations, we look so much forward to, seem to fade in the light of the sacrifices we make.

So if we want a happy life, we cannot postpone the happiness until we finally reach, because we may die before we reach the ultimate destination. We have to make the journey enjoyable.

Studying can be enjoyable. If we just develop enough curiosity, if we just get enough excited about gaining new knowledge it does not have drudgery at all. And so is it with each next leg of our life long journey. It is possible to develop the right mind set to make it truly enjoyable.
