Reflection 119 (richness)

Richness

Too many people think that richness is solely dependent on gathering lots of money.

To be truly rich, we need as much, or even more, health, wealth of character, mental wealth and soul wealth.

If we gather a lot of money but lack health, how rich are we really
If we gather a lot of money but in the process give up or wealth of character, how rich are we?
If we gather a lot of money without mental wealth, soul wealth, how rich are we?

True riches lies in a combination of these all.
Money is really important and working hard for it is a lofty achievement.
But if we ignore the other essential components chances are that things really get out of balance and we may get a large material wealth with all other components of true wealth being only dwarfed.

Only adequately balanced wealth can bring us peace of mind and happiness. Can you count someone who is lacking peace of mind and happiness as truly possessing riches?

This reflection was inspired by a writing by SydneyNewton Bremer (book: 366 self motivating essays for students and adults)
